Vivre à Bruxelles comme un bruxellois!

By Bed&Brussels
Kristina 36 years Swedish, business woman

“As part of my work, I must regularly stay in Brussels for periods of 1 week to 4 months. Brussels is a pleasant city to live in as an expatriate. Rents are affordable, which makes the cost of living attractive despite being the European capital.

Another positive point is that you can use English anywhere and therefore be easily understood if you do not speak French or Dutch. During my stays in Brussels, the Bed & Brussels team accompanies me in the search for my accommodation. I send them the dates of their stay, my budget and the district. On the basis of their housing proposals, I make my choice. The invoice is sent to my accounting department.

All I have to do is contact the owner for the practical details of my arrival. I usually rent a furnished studio and am greeted by the owner in person who explains how the place works and makes recommendations to me about the neighbourhood (public transit, restaurants, etc.). With this formula, I feel like I’m at home a little bit and what I wouldn’t have in a standard hotel. Moreover, the system is cheaper… which is not negligible when you travel often. During my last stay in Brussels, I rented a studio next to the 50th anniversary park, a few steps from the European quarter I was supposed to visit.

The European Quarter

The European Quarter is totally different on weekdays than at weekends.

During the week, this district is full of people, especially during European summits. The weekend was much quieter. This may be the right time to discover its buildings – the European Parliament Chamber, the Europa building, the Caprice des Dieux (European Parliament) or the Berlaymont,…

Kristina's advice

Don’t stop at the European quarter, go through a few streets and you will discover another style, another atmosphere such as Brussels is a series of neighbourhoods with each its own identity and atmosphere like St Gilles and its bobos coast, the Place St Catherine its city centre and its terraces, Matongé and its African atmosphere,…

Les bons plans de Kristina

I love the 50th anniversary park for strolling, jogging, eating ice cream or visiting museums (Army Museum, Autoworld,…). And then to better understand the European universe, visit the Parliamentarium.

The Parliamentarium is the largest centre dedicated to the universe of the European Parliament. Do you want to know who works in the European Parliament? What impact does it have on the daily lives of European citizens? It’s a fun place to discover it!
