Living in Brussels like a Brussels resident!

By Bed&Brussels
Julie 22 years old, German intern, March 2019

“My 4-month internship in Brussels was my first single experience abroad.
I’ve never felt like an outsider. Brussels is a cosmopolitan city. Many of us foreigners live there for a few months or a few years. A lot is happening there. There are many events that allow you to go out and meet people.
I found a furnished studio via the Bed& Brussels platform. The studio was nicely decorated and all the charges were included, it’s easier to plan your budget. And then especially not to be underestimated there was the duvet, pillows, sheets, towels,… Everything I didn’t have to put in my suitcase…

I was in the Flagey district in the super commune of Ixelles”.

Ixelles, Julie’s neighborhood and expats, but not just that!

Ixelles, Julie’s district, is recognized for its diversity of districts that make it so rich and one of the most prized municipalities in the Region:

  • The chic district of La Toison d’Or and its quality shops
  • The Flagey district, which has become one of Brussels’ major cultural centres
  • The University district for its dynamism
  • The Matongé district (African commercial and associative district)
  • The European quarter or “Luxembourg” where the presence of the European Parliament generates a significant activity, the Châtelain district,…
Julie's advice

Ixelles is a commune with a thousand facets. The best way to discover it is to take the time to stroll through its streets, parks, terraces,…

Julie's good plans

I can only recommend Place Flagey for its lively Belga coffee and delicious fries from Frit Flagey.

For lovers of walks, it is imperative to go to the ponds of Ixelles. The little path that surrounds it is as romantic as you can imagine.
